Jack’s Cash

Year end - time to empty out the piggy bank

Throughout the last 18 months I have accumulated quite a bit of cash in my piggy bank. While I do have a pretty cool piggy bank that I got from my Aunt and Uncle (even is personally engraved with Jacks’$) it doesn’t pay a whole lot of interest. In fact I lose money every day I keep money in my piggy bank due to inflation, so I figured it was time to empty them out and put them in my ING account.

October 2006 - Financial Report

Well I apologize for abandoning the site for so long, to be honest I haven’t had much going on for me financially and well I’ve been up to other things like walking, climbing, running, and trick or treating and I’ve kind of put my finances on the background, which really is not a good excuse. Running a credit report on a 10 month old.

Now that may sound like a crazy idea, but my friend over at Financial Baby Steps just recently wrote an article about how identity theft is becoming more and more popular with kids and infants. The article referenced at Financial Baby Steps talks about a guy who somehow got a hold of a toddlers SSN and opened a couple of bank accounts and wrote over $19,000 in fraudulent checks.

LittleGrad.com

Thanks to a comment I got from Joyce on my Saving for my retirement post I got Dad to check out LittleGrad.com. Essentially LittleGrad.com is a service that provides links to sponsoring companies that will deposit money into your child’s 529 savings plan for shopping at their stores. Basically they have a list (a very extensive one at that) of all participating companies. If you click on a link from LittleGrad.com you will be taken to the company’s site and any purchases you make at their website will be eligible for the bonus that gets deposited into the 529 plan. Each store has their own deal, most are matching percentages some are straight dollar amounts. Most companies will deposit 4-10% of your purchase into the 529 plan, but some companies offer up to 24% matching funds!!

Feb 2006 - Financial Report

February was a pretty good month for me. Not only did I actually recieve the $50 bonus for opening my sharebuilder account, I also got my dad to open a 529 savings plan for my college education. The $115 of seed money that he gave me is a great start, but just getting the account open allows me the opportunity for my friends and families to contribute to my savings account (no more excuses of not knowing what to get me for my birthday/christmas). In fact I should post the soliciation email my dad sent out to the family after getting my 529 plan started, it’s actually pretty funny.

I’ve been linked up at PFBlogs.org

Well I haven’t done a great job of getting other site to link to me, but I just found out that I have been linked up at PFBlogs.org, which is a really neat blog aggregator for personal finance blogs, best of all they don’t spam you with ads to view the content. Anyway thanks to PFBlogs.org for the link and best of luck to them, I believe they are fairly new, but their site is already one of the best sites I’ve seen. You basically only have to go to one site to stay on top of the personal finance community.

Check them out at http://PFBlogs.org
