Jan 2006 - Financial Report

Well looking back at January it was a pretty successful month for me financially. My dad helped me open up an investing account with ShareBuilder to take advantage of a $50 promo and gave me $250 to help fund my account. When my net worth was barely above $300 to start with the $300 in the investing account helped me out tremendously. (more…)

Saving for my retirement.

Well I am 8 months old now and while college savings is certianly in the forefront of my mind I can’t help but thinking I should get started on my retirement savings at the same time. With essentially 60 years before I retire I have some of the most powerful forces in the world on my side (Compound Interest and Time). (more…)

New Website

Well I have been slacking again as far as making regular posts, but I kind of have a half-way descent excuse. I’ve upgraded my website, so I had to transfer all of my old material over and get things set up at my new host. Hopefully this change will make it easier for me to stay up to date with my blog and give me more more control over how the content is presented to you. Anyway hope you like the new site and hopefully this gets me started in the right direction.

Things to do for January

Things are kind off to a slow start here. Not only did my networth only increase by $50.80 last month, $50 of that was a one time gift. So I really don’t have a lot of cash flowing into the coffers as we speak. (more…)

Dec 2005 - Net Worth Recap

Well December wasn’t all that fruitful for me. No one took me up on my ING referrals and I did not have any adsense revenue. Things weren’t completly hopeless though as I got $50 in cash for Christmas that was deposited into my savings account and I recieved $0.80 in interest from my ING bank account for the month of December. So here is my financial breakdown below. (more…)

ShareBuilder - Partial Shares of Stock

I still haven’t decided what I will make my first investment in, but something cool that I didn’t realize about ShareBuilder is that I can buy partial shares of stock initially. Now I have heard of Dividend Reinvestment Programs (DRIP) where they will use any dividends you get and reinvest them in more stock and they will allow you to purchase partial shares then. Sharebuilder however allows you to purchase partial shares from the start. This means a little guy like me could actually own shares of Berkshire Hathaway(BRK.B) even though its currently costs nearly $3000 just for one share. I could take my $250 from dad and purchase .0856 shares of Berkshire…..very cool!! (more…)
